Electrathon America

2019-2020

Electrathon America is a endurance race consisting of single person, efficient, lightweight vehicles. Competitors choose to compete self-designed vehicles or kit vehicles to enter the race. The competition inspires members to invest in science, engineering, and technology.

Electrathon America became a team coordination project for E-CAD interns. Team members learned valuable skills such as time management and budgeting. More importantly, the project provided an opportunity for students to apply classroom knowledge to a electric vehicle. Participants of the project aided in design, fabrication, development, and testing of the electric vehicle.

PROJECT OUTCOMES

  • Design - Students gain experience designing real world components using CAD software.

  • Testing - Fabricated design components were tested to determine the quality and functionality of designs.

  • Cost Management - With minimal budget requirements, students created cost analysis of each component.

  • Time Restraints - Students learned to meet deadlines for fabrication and design drawings.

  • Team Coordination - Electrathon America is a team project requiring verbal and written communication from team members.

Engineering  Design Competition

2018-2019

Remaining an active member in the engineering community is key to connecting with fellow engineers and developing experimental knowledge. The Engineering Competition provided students with an opportunity to prove their skills as leaders or team designers.

The Engineering Competition gave students the opportunity to voluntarily lead class peers in challenging competitive events. Each team is given a limited budget, safety guidelines, and a deadline event date. Teams must create cost analysis, time constraints, and design decisions independently. Using classroom experience, students demonstrate the knowledge gained in class to physical projects.

PROJECT OUTCOMES

  • Fabrication - Students must fabricate components independently. Outside experts or kits are not allowed.

  • Design - Students provide project design input.

  • Leadership - The design competition provides students with the opportunity to lead their peers in design decisions and budget assignments.

  • Time Restraints - A event date is given to students; however, students must create a timeline of project steps to meet the event.

  • Team Coordination - Team leaders are given team members and must manage the members according to their strengths.
